When moving home, it’s easy to grab boxes and start packing everything wherever it will fit.
But without packing correctly, you increase the risk that your items will get damaged or broken.
There’s also a chance they may fall through the bottom of the box as soon as you pick it up!
Want to learn how to pack your boxes the right way?
Follow these tips from a professional Furniture Removals Gold Coast company:
1. Use The Right Boxes
Use specialist packing boxes when you move.
This is especially important for your fragile or bulky items. Packing boxes are stronger and more secure than boxes you may get for free from the supermarket.
This is because supermarket boxes are usually designed for lightweight items.
2. Seal Boxes Correctly
Use sturdy packing tape to ensure the bottoms, tops, and sides of boxes are secure. Packing tape also reinforces boxes and gives them extra strength while in transit.
Make sure to tape the box along the join in the middle, and also the open edges. If a box doesn’t seem secure enough, then add extra tape reinforcement in other places.
3. Pack The Items You Use Least First
To make moving as stress-free as possible, you should start packing early. Think about what items you often use, compared to the ones you don’t.
If you pack daily use items, you’ll only have to rummage through boxes to get them out again.
Instead, pack the things which you don’t frequently use in the weeks leading up to your move.
4. Pack Heavy Items At The Bottom Of Boxes
Start by packing your boxes with the heaviest items first at the bottom. Then put lighter items on top.
It will involve some planning but will keep your belongings safe.
If you put heavy items on top, they may break or crush the lighter things below them. It may also cause the bottom of the box to break.
Boxes with heavier items on the top are also a lot more challenging to lift.
5. Pack Boxes Based On Rooms
Packing your belongings together based on the room in the house makes unpacking a lot faster and easier.
When unloaded, the box can then be brought straight to its correct room, and stop double handling. You will also know where everything is right away.
6. Wrap Your Fragile Items
When packing your breakable or fragile items, wrap them in bubble wrap.
Doing so gives them extra protection. Don’t put them straight into the box, even if they seem secure and packed tight.
During a move, even small road vibrations can cause damage to tightly-packed items. Use bubble wrap, newspaper, or cloth to fill any gaps between your fragile items in boxes.
7. Label Boxes
Make sure that you seal and label each box.
Use tape to seal the tops of boxes.
If possible try to use custom labels or stickers to track all your essential items while moving. You can get it done from a printing company near you.
Label them on the top and sides with the location from your home, and what the contents are. If there are fragile items inside, make sure to write ‘FRAGILE’ on the box.
